We’d like to say a Big Thank-you to Grandad Paul for coming in to sort out our planters and scrub the paving stones for us (we didn’t suggest that he do this by-the-way!) before the Easter break. The children had fun planting broad beans with him and we now have lots of plans for lettuces, strawberries, sunflowers and sweet peas in the final term.

Thank-you also to Maggie’s grandparents for helping the children to plant some seeds in the free ‘sow & grow’ pots we received from Innocent Smoothies.

1. Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Nell Bank on Good Friday (14^th April) 10am – 2pm. £2 per child. Prize draw at 1.45pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult. www.nellbank.com

2. Love Brownie Bakery Easter Hunt on Saturday April 15th. Entry forms £2 each from the bakery. Crack 10 questions and the answers will lead you to 10 spots around Ilkley where you will collect 10 codes. Return you question sheet and codes to the Love Brownie Bakery in Ilkley Car Park and record your finish time.

The fastest entrant to collect the correct 10 codes wins a selection box of brownies, Love Brownie hamper of goodies, plus a gorgeous hot chocolate! Every entrant gets a free brownie and £1 out of every entry fee is awarded to the school with the most entrants.

3. Easter Bunny Hunt, Addingham from Saturday 8th – Saturday 22nd April. Hiding in and outside the shops in Addingham are 22 Easter Bunnies waiting to be found. Pick up an answer sheet from the Sandwich Shop or the Olive Branch. Enjoy a stroll around this picturesque village, have a run in the park and browse in the fantastic independent shops.

Once you have found them all, take your completed answer sheet back to the Sandwich Shop by 2.45pm on Saturday 22nd April. All correct answer sheets will be entered into ‘The Totally Locally Easter Prize Draw’. The winner of an Easter egg will be drawn at 3pm.

We have now achieved the Bronze Award on the ‘Woodland Trust’s Green Tree Schools Award’ and we are currently working towards the Silver Award, which we hope to achieve this by the end of the academic year.

We have received: Silver Birch, Cherry, Downy Birch, Rowan, Oak, Crab Apple and Dog Rose varieties.

All gardeners – especially grandparents – are invited to come along and help the children with the digging, weeding and sowing in our big back garden. The aim is to help grandparents and other gardeners to pass on their knowledge and experience, at the same time as enjoying the fresh air and the opportunity to socialise together.

We’re also planting our growing pack which has been sent to us from Innocent Smoothies and ‘Grow It Yourself’ to help children learn to love healthy food by growing some of their own at school. The growing pack contains 32 Sow & Grow cups, compost, a growing guide packed with fun activities and experiments, and a wallchart to celebrate our children’s growing success.

So please bring along your shovels and trowels and get ready for some gardening. All willing volunteers will be offered tasty and healthy homemade snacks and plenty of tea to keep them going!

The letter from Fiona May, Corporate Community Co-ordinator stated:

“The participation of members in the Society’s Small Change, Big Difference scheme made this donation possible. Over half a million of the Society’s members now contribute to the Small Change, Big Difference scheme, in which the annual pence from their interest is donated to the Charitable Foundation.

This innovative scheme largely funds the Charitable Foundation and enables it to assist smaller, local good causes – particularly those nominated by Society members on an ongoing basis – many of which may otherwise be overlooked.

The Trustees are delighted that they have been able to help and hope that the donation will make a difference to your activities.”

The money will go towards taking the children on our first ever theatre trip next week. We are going to see a production of one of our favourite books “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt” at the King’s Hall in Ilkley. The donation will cover the staff’s tickets with enough left over for half-time treats!

We all really enjoyed the performance and are extremely grateful to Catherine for visiting the pre-school every Monday, since September, to teach us lots of French songs. They absolutely love it and spend the rest of the week humming or singing the songs to themselves! The children sang the nativity story in French, before the Ilkley Singers moved on to a programme of carols.

We walked all the way and sang all our favourite Christmas songs, as well as some others! The children’s favourite was definitely ‘Jingle Bells’ and, that old classic, ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’!

It was lovely to see all the residents and wish them a Very Happy Christmas. We look forward to seeing them again next year.
